In 2031, as we celebrate the city’s Bicentennial and the Riverwalk’s golden anniversary, we will continue to be captivated by the Riverwalk’s familiar features and excited by new attractions identified in the The Riverwalk 2031 Master Plan.
South Gateway: Hillside Road to Martin Avenue
This section will develop the new South Gateway, focusing on nature, connections, capacity, hospitality and beauty. A Riverwalk path will encourage visitors to walk from the Edward Hospital campus near Martin Avenue. The South Gateway will feature a versatile pathway, informative wayfinding graphics, native plants, and an open environment along with classic Riverwalk amenities and notable sculptural elements.
The 2031 Master Plan projects will:
- Maintain and improve river ecology and habitat.
- Complete connectivity gaps within the Riverwalk boundaries.
- Expand every day and programmed capacity.
- Increase visitor safety, accessibility, and hospitality.
- Enhance appearance while maintaining signature characteristics.
- Engage the next generation of Riverwalk advocates and donors.
The Naperville Riverwalk Foundation operates independently and as a separate entity from the City of Naperville, Naperville Park District, Naperville Riverwalk Commission, Century Walk and the Moser Tower and Millennium Carillon.
